star, Mr. Edward Michael. 50, of Birmingham, formerly of Richmond, a faculty member at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, husband of Mary Katherine Ridgill Foster. DAWSON, Alethea Gardner. Born November 9, 1921 and passed away on May 3L 2013.

It is with a deep sense of sadness that the family of Alethea Dawson announces her quiet passing in Appleton. "Lee" was born in Richmond, the daughter of George C. and Itaska Gardner. In 1971, Lee moved to Chula Vista, where she was the Administrative Secretary of Business Services at the Chula Vista City School District until she retired in 1981. Lee had been a resident of Chula Vista for 34 years prior to moving to Kimberly, Wis.

in 2005. Lee was a woman of deep kindness and generosity, fierce loyalty and a vivacious spirit. It is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many long-lasting friendships over her lifetime. She will always be remembered for her gracious manner, sharp intelligence and soft southern accent. Her real passion in life was making quilts and she was an active member of the Chula Vista Quilt Guild before moving to Wisconsin.

Lee will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rebecca Pearson (John) of Kimberly, son, Robert Dawson (Naomi) of Reno, granddaughter, Debra Vieira (Rob) of Vancouver, grandson, Michael Pearson of Appleton, Wis; great-granddaughters, Anna Kelley and Addy Vieira of Vancouver, Wash. Lee is also survived by her much loved younger brother, Joseph Gardner (Fay) of Richmond, niece, Pam Bishop (Ed) of Montpelier, and nephew, Jay Gardner of Richmond, Va. A private graveside service will be held at Lee's family burial plot in Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Red Cross (redcross.org or 1 800 Red Cross). Mr. John of Richmond. Mr. Rameik of Richmond. FEILD, Judge Herbert Iverson Lewis, son of the late Richard Bernard Feild and Marion Lewis Field, died May 25, 2013.

Judge Feild was born June 23, 1928, a native of Gloucester County and resided there until moving to Mathews County in 1993. Judge Feild attended public schools in Gloucester County, Randolph-Macon College, and received a degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond Law School in 1957. While at the law school, he was a member of the National Moot Court Team representing the school, and a member of and Chancellor of the McNeil Law Society, a honor law society. Judge Feild returned to Gloucester County in 1957, where he practiced law in the firm of Pointer and Feild. In 1974, he was elected by the General Assembly of Virginia to the bench of the Ninth Judicial District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, where he served with distinction until his retirement in 1994.

Thereafter he continued to sit in the District Court when recalled to service from time to time until 1998. Judge Feild was a member of and former president of the Virginia Council of Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Judges, and a former member of the Executive Committee and Education Committee of the Virginia Conference for District Court Judges. Judge Feild was a lifelong member of Ware Episcopal Church, where he previously served on the Vestry, served as Senior and Junior Warden, and as a member of and past chairman of the Mission Committee. At the time of his death, he was an honorary vestry person. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Cable Feild.

He is survived by his children, Carole Feild Osvalds and Jane Lewis Feild; three grandchildren, Eriks Iverson Osvalds, Nikolas Jurjans Osvalds and Cable Skyren Feild; and sister, Judith Feild Gager. Funeral service, officiated by Reverend Theodore McConnell, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Ware Episcopal Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the Parish House. In memory of Judge Field, memorials may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O.

On May 26, 2013, SGM (Retired) Reuben E. Adams Jr. of Petersburg, passed away in Alexandria, near sons, Reuben E. Adams III and Cecil C. Gray and their families.

Buddy was born on July 3, 1930 in Russell County, Ala. He was in the U.S. Army for 30 years and served his country with honor and distinction. He served in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and fought in the Korean Conflict and the war in Vietnam. Buddy retired at Ft.

Lee and lived in Petersburg for 30 years. Funeral services will occur Thursday, June 6, 10 a.m., Memorial Chapel, Fort Lee, Va. A repast will follow in the Chapel's Fellowship Hall. The burial will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. CARR, Leo la Prince, of Suffolk, formerly of Portsmouth, died May 30, 2013. She was born February 8, 1921 in Lawrenceville, and was the daughter of Hinton Douglas and Leola Hill Prince. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Albert Joseph Carr and her sister, Dorothy Prince Oldfield. Survivors include her four children, Albert Joseph Carr Prince Carr Norfleet and her husband, Ed, Martha Douglas Carr Crowley and her husband, John, all of Richmond, and William Hopkins Carr and his wife, Missy, of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Margaret Norfleet Weismiller, Edward Norfleet, Cille Crowley, Anna Wells Crowley, Addie Rodes Carr and Emaline Carr; and a niece, Teresa Carr Foster of Portsmouth. Mrs.

Carr graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1942 and taught within the Norfolk County Public School System. Married at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lawrenceville, she joined Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. She was a member of The Jamestowne Society, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, The College of William and Mary Society of the Alumni and Kappa Delta Sorority. She served on the Portsmouth General Hospital Auxiliary and The Portsmouth Historical Association.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. The Reverends Julia Dorsey Loomis and Kathleen Morrisette Bobbitt will officiate. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court Portsmouth, Va. 23704, or to Lake Prince Woods, 100 Anna Goode Way, Suffolk, Va.

BURTON, Mr. James William "Jim," of 1104 Waddell Lane, South Boston, died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Newport News, on May 22, 1945 and was 68 years old.

He was the son of the late James W. Burton Sr. and Fleurie Bradley Burton; and was married to Patricia Francis Burton. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a graduate of Ferrum College, RPI (VCU) and received his MBA from Averett University, he worked for Virginia Power, Westinghouse (ABB) and Tiullum (D-Scan).

He was an avid golfer and was former president and financial officer of the Halifax Country Club. He also was a member of the South Boston IDA. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Francis Burton of South Boston; one daughter, Luanna B. Daniel and companion, Robert Jordan, of South Boston; one son, James W. "Jim" Burton III and wife, Eve, of Mechanicsville; one granddaughter, Jane Addison Burton of Mechanicsville; one sister, Emmy B.

Gupton and husband, Prentice, of Clarksville; nieces and nephews, Sara Raney and husband, Steve, of Chester; Tom Pulliam of San Antonio, Texas; Katheryn Peterson and husband, Gary, of Virginia Beach, Mary Lynn Pulliam of Clarksville, and Laura Reitmeier and husband, Chris, of Richmond. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Russell Lee conducting the service.

Peter's College in Jersey City. During his academic career, he excelled as an outstanding basketball player. After selling his successful elevator company, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. He graduated from the University of Richmond Law School and then practiced criminal defense. Rick's greatest passion was his time spent with family and friends at Lake George, N.Y.
